Which is better for the environment: A Compact Fluorescent Bulb or energy saving LED lighting?
LEDs are better because they consume much less energy than CFLs, but right now they are much more expensive. CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, but less than the amount released by burning the extra coal needed to power an incandescent bulb. CFLs can be properly disposed of at many places, and last much longer than incandescent bulbs. The newer generation of CFLs throw good light, and full spectrum CFLs are excellent to read by, so they are certainly not a con, but replacing them with LEDs will be a good thing.
